What are dental veneers?
Veneers are thin coverings that adhere to a tooth to give it a more conventional shape. Veneers come in numerous shades to obtain a custom match for each patient.
They’re made from resin composite materials or porcelain. Porcelain veneers are somewhat superior because they are more stain-resistant and they tend to reflect light in a way that’s most similar to natural teeth. They typically last about 7 to 15 years. With good oral hygiene most last at least 10 years. Veneers do not harm your natural teeth in any way.
What can I expect during the procedure?
We’ll first apply some local anesthetic and then trim a tiny amount (e.g., half a millimeter) of tooth enamel to prepare your tooth for the veneer. This is usually a totally pain-free procedure. Then we make a mold of your tooth, choose a shade that matches your other teeth, and send out to a dental lab. About two weeks later, we then apply the veneer, checking to ensure a good fit. And then your tooth has a new, beautiful look. We often schedule one additional follow-up visit a few weeks later just to ensure that all is well.

- The concentration of the bleaching formula in over-the-counter products is lower than that used in professional whitening. This lower concentration is for your protection because the at-home kits don’t provide protection for your gums. However, this also means it takes longer to see results.
